Answer by Zeta Reticuli
SOLAR MASS STAR --
1. Accretion within a nebula
2. Protostar (..core temperature not hot enough to initiate nuclear fusion..)
3. New star (..core temperature high enough to initiate nuclear fusion..)
4. Main sequence (..star becomes mainly stable in luminosity and temperature..)
5. Giant phase (..nuclear fuel exhausted; star greatly increases in size..)
6. White dwarf stage (..remaining mass of star contracts to about the diameter of Earth..)

GREATER THAN SOLAR MASS STAR --
Phases 1 through 5 very much the same, but 6th phase will end the star's life in a supernova explosion. From there it will evolve into either a neutron star or a black hole.
